EXCITING MONTH FOR SPRING VALLEY LAKE COP'S

Five new members just out of the COP Academy went right to work patrolling Spring Valley Lake and assisting with extra duties.

Extra duties started with a walk through the Cinco De Mayo celebration at the Victor Valley College. Earl & Hank

Next special duty was two full days (6th & 7th) with the Sheriff’s Dive Rescue Team at Lake Silverwood. Spring Valley Lake COP’s have been assisting the Dive Rescue Team for the last five or six years. We not only train with them we are on call in case of emergency. When we work or train with the Dive Team we know it will be 12 or 14 hour days.

The new members got a taste over the two-day spread. This exercise included divers and emergency teams from the FBI, Fire, State Office Emergency Services, and many other local, County, State and Federal, Government Departments.

The Sheriff’s Dive Rescue team is well known throughout the USA from Coast to Coast and is called for advisement in many water related emergencies. (Coy, Dennis, Gerry, Brady, Muriel, Kathie,Maryadonna, Robert, Larry, Earl, Paul, Bob & Hank)

Next, we assisted on an overnight patrol of Silver Lakes, while the Edison power was off for repairs. Saturday night (the 9th) and not being familiar with the area made it a little exciting. We found lot’s of garage doors open and a couple of parties going on. William units took care of the parties and after awaking a couple of grouchy residents we decided just to patrol and keep an eye out for anyone trying to help themselves from the garages.

The new command post worked very well for this operation but needs a few improvements, such as a safety handle to assist entering and departing. (Jesus, Paul, Dennis, Hank)

On to the County Fair, most members got a chance to patrol the fair. Reports of lost and found children is the most noted problem for COP’s, there was a few DUI problems where we notify the command post to handle, then we get the heck out of the way.

Friday 15th was another power shut down by Edison. This time it was in Wrightwood. Things cooled off when the sun went down. Like Silver Lakes, not being familiar with the area made everything exciting. I lucked out when I picked up Ellen to ride along. She lives in Wrightwood and had a Real Estate Office here for years. If a call came in, she knew which way to go and how to get there fast. She has many stories to tell about the area. William units did a fantastic job. (Paul, Richard, & Hank)

Wednesday (20th) we had a mini sweep in Spring Valley Lake. Reserve Units barely got into the Spring Valley Lake development before they started arresting suspects, giving out citations and impounding vehicles. They were busy and did not slow down until it was time to go home. COP’s assist on sweeps by standing waiting for tow trucks to pickup impounded vehicles. With our help, the Deputy has the suspect in jail and back on the detail before the vehicle is picked up.

Things really got exciting when we started having problems with our vehicles, first our Tahoe air conditioning quit working. We have over one hundred and twenty six thousand miles on it and it is getting to the point where we may have to get rid of it if the repairs get too costly. Our Malibu got deadlined because of tires that need to be replaced. They are both back in action, but we have our fingers crossed that they do not need more repairs.

THEY DON'T LOOK LIKE COP's NOW, BUT WHEN THEY GET A UNIFORM ON, LOOK OUT.

THEY DO MEAN BUSINESS, WHO NEEDS GUNS, THEY CAN OUT TALK ANYONE.
